The Nest at Palm Valley

About Us

About the Founders

The Nest was co-founded by Erica Harris and Shavonda Lawson, two mission-driven leaders with a shared vision: to build schools where children are not just educated, but deeply understood. With backgrounds spanning military leadership, early childhood education, counseling, and global community-building, Erica and Shavonda bring a rare blend of heart and strategy to their work.
Their model is rooted in Montessori philosophy and backed by more than 65 years of research into child development. It supports the whole child, socially, emotionally, and academically, through intentional environments, trusted relationships, and purposeful work. Together, they have created learning communities where children are free to explore, belong, and become the thinkers, leaders, and creators they are meant to be.
At the heart of their leadership is a belief in equity, authenticity, and the power of education to transform lives, not just for children, but for families and educators as well.

Come See The Difference

You've Been Searching for Something Different—You Just Found It

At The Nest at Palm Valley, we believe school should do more than prepare children for the next test; it should prepare them to lead lives of purpose, passion, and impact.

Built on decades of experience guiding students during the most pivotal years of their development, our school was created for families who want more. More than just academics. More than just safety. More than just checking boxes. Here, your child is seen. Challenged. Believed in.

We offer a whole-child approach that honors their individuality, nurtures their voice, and guides them toward becoming who they were meant to be, not someday, but right now. This is a place where thinkers are born, leaders are shaped, and world-changers begin their journey. Come see the difference. Your child's future starts here, because they were made for something extraordinary.

Our Mission

At The Nest at Palm Valley, we nurture the whole child—intellectually, emotionally, socially, and ethically—during the years that shape who they are becoming. In a collaborative, hands-on environment, students are challenged to think critically, act responsibly, and lead with purpose. Our mission is to guide each learner to discover their strengths, deepen their curiosity, and take ownership of their path—so they are not just prepared for what comes next, but ready to shape it.

Our Vision

We envision a community where young people are not only academically prepared but also grounded, curious, and capable of leading lives of purpose and integrity. At The Nest at Palm Valley, students build the confidence to ask hard questions, the empathy to work across differences, and the courage to contribute meaningfully to the world around them.

Our Mission

Our goals at The Nest at
Palm Valley include:

Independence with Purpose

Students are given the freedom to make choices and take initiative, while learning that independence comes with accountability, self-direction, and pride in their work.

Social Connection & Collaboration

In a community built on mutual respect, students navigate friendships, resolve conflicts, and build meaningful connections through shared work and authentic dialogue.

Focused Engagement

Through project-based learning and time management skills, students build the ability to concentrate deeply, work with intention, and follow through on complex goals.

Academic Mastery

Each student is supported and challenged through an individualized curriculum that promotes excellence in math, reading, writing, science, and the humanities, with the freedom to move beyond grade-level expectations.

Executive Function & Organization

Students learn to plan, prioritize, and problem-solve—essential life skills that support both academic achievement and personal responsibility.

Emotional Maturity & Self-Knowledge

As students begin to define who they are, we help them build resilience, self-awareness, and confidence in their values, voice, and decisions.

Critical Thinking & Curiosity

We foster a culture of questioning, investigation, and reflection, encouraging students to think deeply, challenge assumptions, and explore the world beyond the classroom.

Ethical Leadership & Responsibility

Through community service, peer mentorship, and real-world applications, students learn to lead with empathy, act with integrity, and contribute meaningfully to the world around them.
